What's in the name名前の由来

Sumato スマート / 住マト /ˈsʊmɑːtoʊ/

A deliberate pun that reads two ways in Japanese. 日本語で二重の意味を持つ名前です。

住 (sumu) "to live / to reside" — the verb at the heart of every Japanese rental contract. 「住む」 — 日本の賃貸契約の核心にある動詞。

マト (mato) "target / objective" — from 的. Combined: 住マト = "the place you're aiming to live." 「的」 — 目標・狙い。組み合わせて「住マト」で「住むべき狙い所」。

スマート (sumāto) Katakana for the English word "smart." In speech, Sumato Search sounds exactly like "Smart Search." 英語「smart」のカタカナ表記。口に出すと「Sumato Search」は「Smart Search」と同じ響きになります。

Read one way it's 住まいの的 — "the right place to live." Read the other, it's スマート・サーチ — "smart search." We chose the name because the product has to do both: help discerning residents find the home that fits them, and do it the smart way. 一方では住まいの的 — 「住むべき場所」。もう一方ではスマート・サーチ — 「賢い検索」。厳選層の入居者にふさわしい住まいを届け、かつそれを賢いやり方で行う — 両立を名前そのものに込めました。

For the subscribed agency, Sumato is a bilingual listing platform with a relocation toolchain attached — presentation, cost transparency, AI-powered match briefs, contract review, and a browser-based filler for every Japanese form your client will encounter.
